What helped me in the Recovery Process

Being diagnosed with such disease – cancer, was almost like a death sentence. I needed much time to recover both physically and emotionally. A few things impacted my recovery and aided the healing process, to which I am grateful to Father God for His grace and guidance.

Reading

I read many books on healing written by different Christian teachers. I was extremely grateful that a dear sister recommended me the book by Mark Brazee, called ‘365 days of healing’. The daily reading of this book has opened up my understanding on the Word of God, it has taught me the foundation of faith and that it is God’s will to heal His children.

God says His Word is medicine to my flesh. I read God’s Word daily. Faith starts where the will of God is known. If you do not know what is in the bible you cannot pray and stand in faith effectively. I searched and highlighted bible verses which speaks of healing, wrote them on cards and placed these verses around my house, so I could be reminded of God’s Word in every corner of the house.

Kenneth E. Hagin’s book on “The Believer’s Authority” gave me the insight that Christians have already been given the authority to overcome the devil, and God has already provided us with the weapon for our warfare. “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” (Ephesians 6:10-11) This book and his other teachings have proven invaluable to me when I was tried and tested.

I was inspired by E. W. Kenyon and Don Gossett’s books; “There’s Miracle in Your Mouth”, “Keys to Receiving God’s Miracles”, and “What You Say is What You Get!” These books highlight the importance of positive confession, and how God’s Word can help us overcome life’s obstacles. Many people are trained to think defeat and talk defeat and this has a real impact in their lives. “Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.”(Proverbs 6:2)

I was given a little book called “God’s Creative Power for Healing” from a dear sister, by Charles Capps. This little book contains many healing confessions that the author encourages the reader to read aloud frequently (there is power in our words), just like the way you take natural medicine at certain times.

I felt alone fighting cancer, and wanted to know how other Christians who have similar conditions went through the crisis. Therefore it was a great blessing when I discovered Dodie Osteen’s testimony of “Healed of Cancer”. Medical doctors diagnosed her with an incurable cancer condition. However, she was completely healed by God!

Many other books have played an important role in building me. Books written by T.L Osborn,” Healing the Sick” and “ One Hundred Divine Healing Facts”, Marilyn Hickey’s “Total Healing”, F.F Bosworth’s “Christ the Healer”, Joseph Princes’ “Healing Promises”, Kenneth E. Hagin’s “Seven Things you Should know about Divine Healing”, and many other books which I have listed on my ‘Useful Reading’ section.

I thank God for these mighty men and women of God who wrote these books which I believe not only benefited me, but have touched and benefited millions of people world wide.

Listening to Teachings

I spent many hours listening to solid teachings of the Bible. I was recommended Keith Moore’s teachings, you can find them on his website and they are free to download (thank you Pastor Moore!). His series on “Questions on Healing” and “God’s Will to Heal” are fantastic message for those who are not sure whether it is the devil or God who sends sickness to us. You will be surprised that many Christians today still do not know that it is God’s will to heal us. Many of us have not been taught correctly and think God sends sickness to teach us a lesson. People who are diagnosed with serious illness need to understand the basic principal that it is God’s will to heal us.

I have never heard anyone who could bring out Father God’s love for us as vividly as Joseph Prince. His messages on grace bring out Father God’s compassion and love for mankind. God’s Son Jesus Christ sacrificed himself for our sins and sickness, which made it possible for all of us to have eternal life. “For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ” (John 1:17).

I have been truly blessed by the late Kenneth E. Hagin’s teachings on faith and healing. He was born with a deformed heart condition and an incurable blood disease. At the age of 15 he was bedfast for 16 months and doctors have announced that he could die any minute. While on the bed of sickness he went to hell, got born again and was totally healed by believing and standing on God’s Word, namely on verse Mark 11:24.

Many times God used his messages on faith and healing to speak and to encourage me when my faith and strength was failing.

Inspiring Videos & Music

My heart was overwhelmed by God’s wonderful creation. In his DVD titled ‘Indescribable”, Louie Giglio speaks of the stars and the solar system and he pointed out that God the Creator measures this universe with the palm of His hand. I was so excited that my God is a big God and that nothing is impossible for Him! The whole universe bow down to His glory, He is bigger than any sickness and disease!

In another DVD also by Louie Giglio called ‘How great is our God’, he mentioned a substance which holds the human body together – laminin. What amazes me was that not only this substance holds our cells and tissues together so that our physical body would not fall apart; it is shaped like a cross! How wonderful is that!

Times when I was either in pain, feeling depressed or when my faith seemed low, I would listen to bible teachings or worship songs. The words would minister to me and often I get rejuvenated which enabled me to continue to fight the good fight of faith. God’s Word is alive!

 ‘Counselling Sessions’

Someone once asked whether I needed counselling regarding my condition. I personally did not feel the need to talk to a stranger about it. I didn’t think the Counsellor would be able to comprehend what I was going through, nor able to give me adequate advice.

Nevertheless, my cousin telephoned me quite often during the first year of my illness. I spoke to her regarding my struggles, and how I overcame these by the grace of God. I saw this as a ‘counselling’ session sent by God; it has truly been a blessing to have someone who can listen and not to condemn you.

Confesssions

I read the following confessions three to four times everyday when I was first diagnosed with cancer:

“Jesus took my infirmities and bore my sickness. Therefore I refuse to allow sickness to dominate my body. The life of God flows within me bringing healing to every fiber of my being. “(Matt. 8:17; John 6:63)

“That which God has not planted is dissolved and rooted out of my body in Jesus’ name. 1Peter 2:24 is engrafted into every fiber of my being and I am alive with the life of God. “(Mark 11:23; John 6:63)

“Growths and tumors have no right to my body. They are a thing of the past for I am delivered from the authority of darkness.” (Col. 1:13, 14)

“Jesus bore the curse for me; therefore I forbid growths and tumors to inhabit my body. The life of God within me dissolves growths and tumors, and my strength and helath is restored. “(Matt. 17:19; John 14:13; Mark 11:23)

Inspiring Quotes

God often speaks to me through the Bible or through good books. Here are some quotes or messages from authors and teachers which I find inspiring, uplifting and strengthening.

“Real Bible faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible, and receives the impossible, and that force has the ability to change outward circumstances.” – Cathy Duplantis

“Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall Glorify me.” -Psalm 50:15

“Yes there is a passive faith and active faith. There is an instantaneous faith that takes the promise now; there is a steady unwavering faith that can stand the test and though the vision tarry, wait for it, growing daily in strength as young tree grow in statue.” –Aimee Semple McPherson

Extracts taken from the book by John E Eckhardt –Healing confessions:

I cast out all spirits of infirmity that would attack my body in the name of Jesus. I break, rebuke, and cast out any spirit of cancer that would attempt to establish itself in my lungs, bones, breast, throat, back, spine, liver, kidneys, pancreas, skin, or stomach in the name of Jesus.

I rebuke and cast out all spirits causing diabetes, high blood pressure, low blood pressure, heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, leukaemia, blood disease, breathing problems, arthritis, lupus, Alzheimer’s, or insomnia in the name of Jesus.

I speak healing and strength to my bones, muscles, joints, organs, head, eyes, throat, glands, blood , marrow, lungs, kidneys, liver, spleen, spine, pancreas, eyes, bladder, ears, nose, sinuses, mouth, tongue, and feet in the name of Jesus.

I loose myself from all heart attacks rooted in fear, and I command all spirits of fear to leave in Jesus’ name (Luke 21:26)

I lose myself from all diabetes rooted in rejection, self-hated, inheritance, and guilt, and I command these spirits to come out in the name of Jesus.

I loose myself from all cancer rooted in bitterness, unforgiveness, resentment, and slander of the tongue; and I command these spirits to come out in the name of Jesus.

Lastly…

The book called “A Street Cat Named Bob” was heart-warming for me. Though this book primarily has nothing to do with healing or faith, it was a blessing for me to read it. It’s a real story about a man who found an injured, strayed cat in his hallway, and from that moment on they were an inseparable pair. ..life is full of little collection of goodness and events which could bless someone’s heart if only they would be still inside and look around ….
